Late one hot summer night in 1965, thirteen-year old Charlie Bucktin is startled by an urgent knock on the window of his sleep-out. Jasper Jones local rebel and outcast needs his help. Charlie afraid but desperate to impress, steals away into the night, following Jasper to his secret glade in the bush and it's her that Charlie bears witness to Jasper's horrible discovery. Carrying his secret like a brick in his belly, Charlie is pushed and pulled by a town closing in on itself as fear and suspicion looms. At home he fights with his mother; falls nervously in love for the first time and battles to keep a lid on his zealous best friend, Jeffrey Lu. In a simmering summer where everything changes, Charlie learns to discern the truth from a myth, why white lies creep in like curses, why the truth of things is so hard to know, and even harder to hold in his heart.
